ADVICE 1

VAM: HOW IT WORKS?

VAM stays for Average ascensional velocity. It's usually measured in m/h. It's an empirical, handy performance index that helps categorize cyclists and predict their uphill and hilly terrain performance.

ADVICE 2

POWER (Watt)

Power is one of the two orders of magnitude in the relative power formula. The relative power is equal to the POWER (Watt) divided by the body mass of a cyclist (Kg). Increasing power is a factor which helps increase relative power and average climbing speed.

ADVICE 3

MASS (Kg)

Body mass (Kg) is the second factor which determines relative power. Targeting an ideal body weight, which should consider overall health and sustainability over time according to stress factors, helps increase relative power, VAM, and average uphill speed.

ADVICE 4

METABOLIC FLEXIBILITY

Metabolic Flexibility is a parameter of endurance performance. It consists of the maximal metabolic steady state the body can reach while exercising. It strongly correlates with Critical Power (CP) and the Anaerobic threshold.
